Patna: Recognizing the need to increase the Gross Enrollment Rate (GER) in Bihar, a six-member committee headed by the Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) of Patliputra University (PPU), the Professor AK Nag, has started to assess the feasibility of commencing postgraduate (PG) studies teaching in arts, science and commerce streams in 18 PPU constituent colleges located in Patna and Nalanda districts. According to Professor Nag, the university has received proposals from these 18 colleges to run PG centers on their campuses for the benefit of students who wish to pursue PG studies. The university has made a policy decision to allocate at least 30 places in each subject at the initial stage, he said. BD College, Patna, which already runs the PG center for business students, has applied for PG education in nine subjects including Physics, Zoology, Political Science, English, Pali, Prakrit, Sanskrit, economics and sociology. Ganga Devi Mahila College in Kankarbagh has submitted its PG teaching proposal in Zoology, Botany, Sociology, Home Science, History, English and Ancient Indian History, he said.
Similarly, Dwarika College in Kankarbagh has proposed to establish a PG center in the subjects of History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Hindi, English, Geography and Sanskrit. Guru Gobind Singh College in Patna City has offered to start the PG in Commerce and Ancient Indian History while the College of Commerce, Arts and Science has offered to start the MA in Electronics, Prof Nag said, adding BS College, Danapur has proposed to start teaching PG in nine subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Psychology, History, Political Science and Economics.

SU College in Hilsa offered to start PG in Geography, Hindi and Political Science, DSW said.
According to Professor Nag, the PPU will only take a final appeal regarding the teaching of PG at these colleges after approval from the Affiliation Committee, Academic Council, Senate and PPU Union.
The university will then send these proposals to the state government for final approval, he said, adding that if all goes well, the PPU will allow these colleges to start teaching PG from the next 2022-23 academic session, which is expected to start in September 2022.
