NUC approves medical curriculum and 23 other courses for Kwara University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of Medicine and Surgery and 23 other undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Kwara State University (KWASU) Malete.

The endorsement contained in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, was signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. NB Saliu, for the Executive Secretary of the Commission.

At the top of the list of approved programs is the MBBS Medicine and Surgery; B.Eng. Food Engineering; B.Sc. Aquaculture and Fisheries Management; B.Sc. Taxation; B.Sc. peace studies and conflict resolution; and B. Ed. Pedagogical management.

Other undergraduate programs are the BA Ed. in English Education, Christian Studies Education; Arabic education; French education; Teaching of Islamic studies; and, Yoruba education.

The endorsement also granted the creation of a B.Sc. Ed. in agricultural education; the teaching of biology; teaching of chemistry; Computer education; mathematics education; and teaching physics.

Approved postgraduate programs include M. Eng. and doctorate. Electrical Electronics Engineering; M.Sc. and Ph.D. Plant and Environmental Biology; M.Eng. Mechanical Engineering and M.Sc. Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Approval of new programs is effective from the 2022/2023 academic session followed by resource verification visits by expert panels at the university to assess the human and material resources available for their institution.
